Herne Hill Harriers was founded in Milkwood Road, Herne Hill in 1889 and are now based at Tooting Bec Track, Tooting Bec Road, London SW17 (Tel: 020 8871 7171). Click here for directions to the track via the website www.runtrackdir.com.

We pride ourselves on being a family club and cater for all standards. We offer coaching, training and competitions in all track and field events, road running, cross-country, indoor athletics and sports hall.

We welcome athletes of all ages from 11 upwards interested in track and field, road running or cross country races. The Star-Track Summer Training Week at the end of July offers an excellent opportunity for youngsters to get involved.

The men’s track and field team competes in the British Athletics League, Division 2 and Division 3 South of the Southern Men’s League as well as the mid-week Rosenheim League with other local clubs. The women also have a track and field team which was promoted to the UK Women's Athletics League in 2008 and won the BAL 10 in 100 Plate competition in 2007 and 2008. Young Athletes can compete in the National Young Athletes League. The club also competes in the Ebbisham and Lily B Leagues to offer further competition for U15 and U13 boys and girls.

A number of club members also compete at the highest level – long jumper Jade Johnson has represented Great Britain in a number of major championships, including the Olympic Games, and won silver medals in the 2002 European Championships and Commonwealth Games. The club has a plethora of highly talented youngsters, some of whom regularly break club age-group records, and a number of these young starlets have won medals in various national competitons. The club is also blessed with a  number of very talented veteran athletes, some of whom have won medals and national and internaional level.

In the winter the club competes in the Surrey Cross Country League and the men’s team are the reigning league champions having secured 4 consecutive titles from 2006 to 2009. The club also annually contests the Surrey, South of England and National Cross Country Championships and the men’s team has won seven consecutive county titles between 2002 and 2008. The club also contests the South of Thames Championships and competes in the East Surrey League.

Road runners are equally at home. Club teams annually enter the Surrey, South of England and National 6-Stage Road Relays in the autumn as well as the longer 12-Stage races in the spring. Red and black hoops are regularly seen in the London as well as at numerous local road races. Our men’s vets team is particularly successful and are the reigning British Masters Cross Country Relay champions. The team also won silver medals in the National Vets 8 Stage Relays in Birmingham in 2006 and 2007and have been the South of England Relay champions since 2003. In the summer, the club also participates in the Surrey Road League.

Although we have well established teams contesting the major local leagues and championships, we very much welcome new members and would encourage you to come along to our main club night at Tooting Bec track, London SW17 on Tuesdays at 7pm.
